Stars of the Game...Music City Bowl

Malik Zaire; 12 for 15 passing, 96 yards and a touchdown.  22 carries for 96 yards (4.4 yards per rush) and a touchdown in his first career start.  Zaire became the first left-handed starting quarterback in Irish history.

William Fuller; 5 catches for 57 yards and one touchdown his 15th of the season, tying the Notre Dame single season record set by Jeff Samardzija in 2005 and matched by Rhema McKnight in 2006 and Golden Tate in 2009.  Fuller ended the season with 1,094 receiving yards, surpassing Golden Tate's 1,080 in 2008 for Notre Dame's sophomore record. Fuller also set sophomore benchmarks this year for receptions (82) and receiving TDs (15).

Kyle Brindza; 4 for 4 on extra points, 4 punts with 3 within the 20 yard line and 1 VERY BIG 32 yard game winning field goal extending his school record to 57 career field goals.  Brindza completes his Notre Dame career with 288 points, third-best in school history and second among kickers.

Who to watch.

Whether you like it or not this Bowl game is a part of next season, if not for momentum for insight to the possible future.  With a very large number of players coming back for the 2015 season some have more to show than others.  Here are some of the players Irish fans will want to pay particular attention to on Tuesday afternoon.

Malik Zaire
Malik Zaire.  This is kind of a no-brainer with there be a potential true quarterback competition this spring and heading into the fall.  One half of this is the poor performance, or at least a lack of production from Golson the other is what can Zaire really do?   His high school highlight tape looks good, there were good reports from summer camp and the few times we have seen him play there has been some positive results.  If the future of the Irish even if it's not until 2016 we need to see more of Zaire in real game action.

Nyles Morgan
Nyles Morgan.  Morgan was going to be the future of middle linebackers in South Bend, but after injuries to the linebacker crew the future came sooner than later for Morgan.  The plan was to redshirt but that did not happen and Morgan looked like what he was; super talented but inexperienced at the collegiate level.  I wish he could have saved a year of eligibility, learned the system and combined his talent with what he learned.  I am excited to see what he has learned with the extra bowl practices.

Mike McGlichey
Mike McGlinchey.  Physically he is a perfect specimen for an offensive tackle.  After redshirting last season it was only a matter of time before he saw the field in 2014.  It came later than some thought but he looked pretty damn good in limited action.  With a nagging back injury to Christian Lombard McGlinchey should see a lot of action this Tuesday.  The future of the offensive line looks bright and McGlinchey should be a big piece of it.

Freshman Defensive Linemen.  Coming into the season Andrew Tumbetti looked like he might be the only freshman D-lineman who was going to see action.  The Irish may have been thin along the defensive front and since Kelly has a history of playing freshmen if he feels they are ready I'm not overly surprised to see more freshman see the field especially after players got banged up.  The freshmen defensive lineman who did see action looked good and with the addition of bowl practices we should get a better insight to the future of Notre Dame's defensive line's future.  Jay Hayes, Grant Blakenship, Daniel Cage, Jhonny Williams, Jonathan Bonner and Peter Mokwuah should all get reps with the absence of Jarron Jones and a not 100% Sheldon Day.

The Echoes Awards Review

Scout Team Player of the Year: Offense - Tyler Plantz

Tyler, a fifth year  was never going to be a starter but his hard work, effort and heart kept him on the team and earned him the respect of Brian Kelly, enough so that Kelly brought him back as a graduate student.  Many time this award goes to a redshirt freshman or even sophomore who is working toward a starting role.  Since we don't see practice this award is hard to critique.  This is however a lot of evidence from listening to teammates that this award is justified.

Scout Team Player of the Year: Defense - Austin Larkin

Austin was initially committed to play for Coastal Carolina.  Last year Larkin was a runner up fir this award along with Bruce Heggie behind winner Joe Romano.  At 6'3 230lbs and only a sophomore we may hear more about and see more from this young man.

Newcomer of the Year: Offense - Torii Hunter Jr.

Torii is not exactly new to Notre Dame as he sat out his freshman season because of injury.  I wouldn't call Hunter's season breakout or extraordinary, especially because he missed games this season too because of injury.  He showed glimpses of Very Goodness (I can't quite say greatness).  With three years of eligibility left Hunter still has a big upside.

Newcomer of the Year: Defense - Drue Tranquill

Tranquill had a solid season, seeing things in perspective that he is a true freshman he had a very solid year.  Drue stepped up and into a position at safety partly due to need and played with the commitment and confidence of a seasoned player.  With all of that being said if I had a vote for this award it might have gone to fellow true freshman Andrew Trumbetti and an Honorable mention to Daniel Cage.

Special Teams Player of the Year - C.J. Prosise

Many people thought that kicker Kyle Brindza would win this award by default but missing ten field goals (several at importune times) sealed his fate.  Prosise came to South Bend to play on the defensive side of the ball, which is probably why he lead Notre Dame Special Teams with 10 tackles this season, but made the witch to receiver his athleticism is paying dividends.  It will be interesting over the next couple of years to see what he can do on the field with his all purpose talent.

Offensive Lineman of the Year - Ronnie Stanley

For the first time in five years  the award goes to someone not named Zack Martin.  The offensive line overall was supposed to be the strongest part of this Irish team and did not live up to expectations.  Ronnie played well and consistently, a word that was not used often with the O-line this season and it was his consistency that won him this award.  Stanley has the ability and potential to be a truly great offensive lineman, however he still has work to do and with several years of eligibility left I expect to see him in an Irish uniform for at least one more year.

Irish Around the Bend - Kyle Brindza

This is the award given for community service.  Irish fans may have reason to question his kicking this year but there is no questioning his character.  This was his second Echo s he won the Echo last year for Special Teams Player of the Year.

Moose Krause Lineman of the Year - Sheldon Day

Statistically Isaac Rochelle and Jarron Jones could have won this award as well but I believe it was Sheldon's hustle and motor that got him this honor.  Day has a year of eligibility left and I hope he takes full advantage of it.

Father Lange Iron Cross - Christian Lombard

Even being hampered by injuries Lombard put the effort to win the award given to the player for putting in work in the strength program.  With Christian out of eligibility his veteran leadership will be missed.

Pietrosante Award - Cam McDaniel

Courage, loyalty, teamwork, dedication and pride are the qualities that need to be exhibited by the winner of this award and I think few can argue that McDaniel fit these to a tee.

Rockne Student-Athlete - Corey Robinson

Since Robinson was selected a First Team Academic All American this award fits.  Corey has shown growth from his freshman season and should continue to grow into one of the top receivers in the country over the next couple of years. Everything you see and see and hear about this kids is positive.

Tire Rack Play of the Year - Ben Koyack

Koyack may have had the single play of the year but he did not have overall play this year he may have wanted.  Overall he was a solid tight end that was probably under utilized.

Offensive Player of the Year - Will Fuller

With a decent amount of depth, albeit inexperienced Fuller stepped up to take the lead; running good routes, making great catches and having nice runs after the catch.  Like Robinson only a sophomore the future of the passing game looks bright with Fuller.

Defensive Player of the Year - Jaylon Smith

Smith had 5 double digit tackle games (and two games with 9).  Although he had solid stat sheet at it pertained to tackles you thought he had more because he seemed to be around every  play made on defense.

Next Man In - Justin Utupo

When Utupo was brought back for a fifth season it raised some eyebrows.  However he showed up in the stat line in eight games this season including a sack and an interception.  He wasn't just the next man in for a few games this season he was the next man in for the season.

Most Valuable Player - Joe Schmidt

This award is a perfect example of the phrase "you don't know what you've got until its gone."  Schmidt played better than most people thought he would but it was when he was out with an injury that his true value was recognized.

Each award was well deserved and the good news is that all but four award winners (Utupo, Lombard, McDaniel and Plantz) should be back for next season.

Thankful for being an Irish Fan.

Although this season has had its share of disappointments there are many things for Irish Fans  to be thankful for.  First and foremost we should be thankful to the players and coaching staff who give us much to cheer for on Saturdays in the fall.

Christian Lombard
Thankful for the Seniors who have given us years of exciting moments including an undefeated season and trip to the National Championship Game.  Their service was appreciated and they will be missed.
Brian Kelly

Thankful for Coach Brian Kelly.  In recent weeks Kelly has been the target of many fans frustration I still feel confident with him at the helm and "the process".

Martini Greer & Jay Hayes
Thankful for the young talent and the future.  It seems that the concept of wait till next year and the future looks bright has not come to fruition recently but the  impressive play albeit inconsistent  of the freshmen has been fun to watch.   The sophomores have shown development and growth and look ready to step up to leadership roles next season.

Thankful for this seasons highlights; a 6-0 start, addition of artificial turf, and the 31-0 shutout of Michigan.

Really?!

I am still too frustrated and confused to discuss the bigger picture of the loss to Northwestern so for not will just focus on review what happened on South Bend Saturday afternoon.

Good:
William Fuller
At least it wasn't Senior Day.

T. Folston had 106 yards rushing on 20 carries for an average of 5.3 yards per carry and 1 touchdown.

Will Fuller had 9 receptions for 159 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Bad:

Play calling, especially in overtime.  I totally don't understand the three plays called before a missed field goal.

Brian Kelly

Run Defense; giving up 263 yards on the ground.

Ball security; 3 lost fumbles.

Red Zone Defense; Northwestern was 5 for 6 in the red zone (4 touchdowns and 1 field goal).

Ugly:

Snap holds.  Not only do the Irish loss the extra point they give up two on the return.

Kicking game; 1 missed extra point, 2 missed field goals, and an average of 35 yards on 4 punts.
Kyle Brindza

ASU Game = FAIL

There will be several articles overt the next few days review Saturdays loss to the Sun Devils.  Some will be good, bad and ugly and some will grade out parts of the team and parts of game.  We will use a Pass / Fail method.  WARNING: This WILL NOT be pretty.
ASU Ran Away with this game.

Final Score - FAIL: If the Irish win they put themselves in great shape with Auburn, Michigan State and Kansas State losing.

Turnover Battle - FAIL: 4 interceptions giving up 123 yards on returns including 2 touchdowns and 1 lost fumble (three fumbles).  28 total points for ASU from turnovers.

The Run Game - FAIL: 41 net yards, 73 yards LOST rushing.  1.1 yards per rush average.

Run Defense - FAIL:  188 net yards surrendered  on the ground.

Red Zone Defense - FAIL: ASU went 5 for 5 in the Red Zone; 4 touchdowns and 1 field goal.

Offensive Line - FAIL: Notre Dame gave up 7 sacks.

Punt Returns - FAIL: 2 returns for a total of 3 yards.

Defense - FAIL: missed tackles and blown coverage's.

Comeback Attempt - FAIL: The Irish came within 3 points just enough to blow it and break our hearts.

Coaching & Play calling - FAIL: This team did not look prepared.

Knock Out Game

It is HIGHLY unlikely that a two loss team will make it into the four team playoff.  There may be a couple of one loss teams kept out.  Every team with one loss could be knocked out with a second loss so any game this weekend with a one loss team in it could be considered a knockout game for that team, this week we have several games with two one loss teams facing each other making it a true knockout game.

#10 Notre Dame @ #17 Arizona State Saturday 3:30 pm on ABC.  As noted before if the Irish do not continue winning what other team do or don’t do will be irrelevant.  If Notre Dame wins this game it will go a long way in justifying their place in the playoff discussion.

#9 Kansas State (7-1) @ #7 TCU (7-1) Saturday 7:30pm on Fox.  Overall I don’t think it benefits Notre Dame either way who wins.  Both teams are in the Big 12 and no way will a two loss Big 12 team get in.  Even a one win Big 12 team may struggle to get a seat at the playoff table.

#16 Ohio State (7-1) @ #8 Michigan State (7-1) Saturday 8:00pm pm on ABC.  Earlier in the season it looked like the Big 10 would not have any chance of being represented in the playoffs, however Michigan State has pushed to change that feeling.  Although the Buckeyes have played well as of late I think their poor performance early one may be too much to overcome, even with a victory over the Spartans to get them into the playoff and for that reason an Ohio State win would probably be better for the Irish.

Notable other one loss teams in action.

#3 Auburn (7-1) hosting Texas A&M (6-3) Saturday 3:30 on CBS.  After starting the season with six wins the wheels have fallen off for the Aggies who have lost their last three games.  Auburn should win this game and win it easily.

#5 Oregon (8-1) @ #17 Utah (6-2) Saturday 10:00 on ESPN.  Utah has a better chance in wining this game than Texas A&M has in winning their but I would still bet the Ducks.  Not that Utah can’t win, they have wins over at the time #8 UCLA and at the time #20 USC.

#6 Alabama (7-1) @ #19 LSU (6-2) Saturday 8:00 on CBS.  Lou Holtz thinks that Alabama is the best team in the country right now.  While I can’t support Lou on, that they are very good football team.  LSU may not be as good as Tiger teams of the past they should be able to hold their own against the Crimson Tide.

#13 Baylor (7-1) @ #18 Oklahoma (6-2) 12 on Fox Sports 1.  Baylor’s only impressive win was a three point home win against TCU in a 61-58 shootout.  Oklahoma’s resume is slightly more impressive in my opinion including a 4 point loss on the road to TCU 37-34.  I like the Sooners on Saturday.

#24 Duke (7-1) @ Syracuse (3-6) 12:30 on Game Plan / ESPN3.  Syracuse sinks.  Blue > Orange on Saturday.

Only #1 Mississippi State and #2 Florida State are undefeated*.  With the Bulldogs playing Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks from the Ohio Valley Conference I suspect Mississippi Sate to stay undefeated.  Even though the Seminoles should beat Virginia, the Cavaliers season looks like a rollercoaster and mayby, just maybe they will roll up this weekend.

*Marshall is 8-0 and ranked #23 in the AP Top 25 / #22 in the USA Today Polls but and unranked in the College Football Playoff Rankings.  Marshall is hurt by playing in the Conference USA and a match up this Saturday against the 3-6 Southern Miss Golden Eagles is not helping their cause.

If Navy isn't enough for you.

Obviously the most important game this week for Notre Dame is their own.  If the Irish want to be in the four team playoff they cannot lose another game.  With that being said, it is most likely the Irish will need some help in addition to their own wins to get in.

Let’s take a quick look as games of interest for Irish fans this weekend besides the one Saturday night in Annapolis Maryland.  Although there are many teams playing that would benefit the Irish by losing we are only going to highlight the games that are higher on our radar and have a better chance of going in the favor of the Irish.

Auburn and Ole Miss each have one loss and somebody’s got to have two when they are done playing each other on Saturday night.

Although I would bet Oregon this week, Stanford could (pretty doubtful) win making the Ducks a two loss team from an often forgotten about Pac 12 conference.

West Virginia is a scrappy team at 6-2 with a respectable win over then #4 Baylor and not terrible losses to Alabama and Oklahoma could put up a fight against TCU putting them in the two-loss column in the Pac 12.

I would not expect Oklahoma State to upset Kansas Sate but it would be nice.

One loss conversation continues.

There is still a lot of football left to be played but the final four picture will now be more prevalent in conversations and the playoff picture will begin to come into focus.  The focus will begin VERY blurry and will be slow to develop.

Moving forward there will be many games that will be important to the Irish getting into one of those four spots.  The most important games are the ones that Notre Dame are playing.  If the Irish stumble and don't win the rest of their games what everyone else does will be irrelevant because a two loss Notre Dame team will be out.

For now we'll take it one week at a time.

Mississippi State won and will remain in the #1 slot.  Irish fans should either root for the Bulldogs to win out and keep that spot stable or loss two games which could happen with match ups against Alabama and Ole Miss.  A one lose Mississippi State team could edge out a one loss ND squad.

Irish fans may be looking to have Florida State win out.  If they lose fine I think the Irish could leapfrog the Seminoles, however FSU could have a legitimate argument that since they beat the Irish.  Both having one lose Florida State's win over the Irish could be seen as the tie breaker.

Ole Miss's loss to LSU may have bumped them out.  With games still on the schedule against #1 Mississippi State and #5 Auburn the Bulldogs may be the most important cog in all of these moving parts.

Alabama is a big one-loss threat to bumping our the Irish.  Although the Tide woe by 14 points over Tennessee, they may have needed a bigger statement win.   With one loss and games against high ranked teams LSU, Mississippi State Auburn they could be a #1 seed if they win out and others lose.

Auburn just got by South Carolina and has a tough road ahead with games against Texas A&M, #9 Georgia and  #4 Alabama.  Before yesterday I might have argued the Tigers are the most dangerous one-loss team now I think they are the most suspect and will lose at least one more before the season ends.

Oregon is often forgotten about playing out west and may have hoped not a lot of people watched last night as they barely got past an unranked Cal team.  Oregon still have a few teams that could trip them up but I would bet they win out if I had to.  Because the Irish have a tough schedule remaining I think a one-lose Notre Dame team edges out a one-lose Oregon team.

There are a number of one-loss teams behind the Irish in the rankings that Notre Dame fans need to keep their eye on.

If Michigan State can get by Ohio State next week Sparty has a great chance of finishing the season with one loss and would have the support of the Big Ten Conference behind them.  Their only loss is to a high ranked Oregon Ducks team giving them a good argument to get into the final four.

If Georgia wins out that means they will have beaten a top five Auburn team.  However I don't think they have enough in the win column to make a strong enough case to get in.  Their only loss was to at that time #24 South Carolina.

TCU also has a good shot at finishing with one loss but their Big 12 schedule does not have enough meet on the bone to get them in.  And yes I know they put up 82 points on Saturday against Texas Tech.

Kansas State could win out and represent the Big 12 this season.  Currently their only defeat was a 20-14 loss to #5 Auburn.

Even if they beat Michigan State Ohio State will not have any other quality wins this year to get in.  A 35-21 loss to a 4-4 Virginia Tech does not help their cause.

Note:  Marshall is and very well remain undefeated but their schedule is too weak to stand up to those top teams in one-loss group.

What now?

As conversation heats up about who will, or at least who should make the four-team playoff the picture will only get more blurry as teams fall from the ranks of the unbeaten and the term quality loses will come into play.  With conference play pitting teams against each other unbeaten teams will diminish and top ten one loss teams will become two-lose teams which will disappear from the discussion.

Each week the outcomes of top ten teams will become more and more important.  Without question the Irish must continue to win to stay in the playoff picture.  With one lose Notre Dame will need some help and will need to have some teams lose over the next several weeks to end up in the final four.

While Notre Dame has a bye this week, there are a number of relevant games that could help the Irish stay near the top of the rankings and work their way back to the top.

#1 Mississippi State plays Kentucky.   It would not be the upset of the century if Kentucky won, but they won’t.   However the Bulldogs still have to play #4 Alabama and Ole Miss.
#2 Florida State plays Louisville.  Again t would not be the upset of the century, but it probably won’t be, FSU wins.  The rest of the regular season looks to favor the Seminoles running the table; however a trip up or a loss in the ACC Championship game may push them out.

#3 Ole Miss faces LSU.  Three weeks ago I would have never given LSU a chance, this week I give them one, a slim one.   They still have to play Mississippi State (someone has to lose) and then a potential SEC Championship.
#4 Alabama plays Tennessee.  Although the Volunteers kept it close early last week against Ole Miss before getting pounded I expect the pounding to begin a bitter sooner this week.   Like the Irish the Crimson Tide has one loss.  They still have #24 LSU, #1 Mississippi State, #5 Auburn  and if they are lucky an SEC Championship game to play to finish the season .  Good luck with all of that.

#5 Auburn plays South Carolina.  Although the Gamecocks are having an off year and some people think they are better than their record shows, I am not one of those people, the Tigers will roll.  Much like the teams ahead of them in the polls Auburn has a gauntlet in front of them where teams will knock each other off and out.  Auburn still has #3 Ole Miss, #9 Georgia and #4 Alabama on its schedule.
#6 Oregon plays Cal.  Oregon will win.  Sorry it is that easy for them this weekend.  After that there are some teams that will give them more of an issue: Stanford, #19 Utah and Oregon State.  If the Ducks get through their regular season a Pac 12 Championship game will not be a slam dunk.

*#8 Michigan State (*#7 in the USA Today Poll) play Michigan.  Traditionally when these two teams play you can through the seasons records out the window, not this season.  It won’t be close Sparty wins, easily.   After this weekend only Ohio State and a Big Ten Championship game seemingly stand in their why of finishing with only one lose and being in contention form a playoff spot.

Come down off the ledge.

I am not saying that Notre Dame should have won the game but they could have won the game.  I am not sure I could be comfortable with that statement in years past against elite competition.  During the final offensive series for the Irish there was a feeling of not only could we win this but we will.  In the past I think Irish fans would have though "how are we going to blow this?"  Never have I ever believed in moral victories but Saturday night came as close as I could believe in.

For those of you who are still upset with the pass interference call at the end of the game; it was a penalty, not necessarily a good call or event the right call but a justifiable and defendable one.  I always have a saying for situations like this; "win by 50 points and one call, bad play or mistake won't make a difference".
For the first time in a long time I truly believe we belong with the elite programs on the national stage.  As far as the "playoffs" Notre Dame may still be in it as in College football there are such things as quality losses.  Quite frankly I will be more than happy finishing the regular season with one lose and a win in a major bowl.
There is little doubt that Brian Kelly and crew are headed in the right direction.  Kelly has the Irish focused on The Process and even thought there is still work to do Notre Dame is legitimately back in the Nation Championship discussion.  Brian Kelly has a rule: win-celebrate, lose-morn but only for 24 hours then move on.  The tough thing now is we have a bye and two weeks to strew.
I want to tip my hat to Seminoles but a couple of things left a bad taste on my mouth.  First; after Golson throws away his last pass and FSU has one the game they get a personal foul penalty.  Next Jimbo Fisher has to tell his team to stay classes when talking to the press.  Really?  If you need to tell them that to me that assumes they either they do not have class to start with and or they don't already know better.   Also in his post game interview he went on about how his team does it right on and off the field, in and out of the classroom and with high character.  Like backing Winston i like that he backs his quarterback but he takes it overboard to the point where anyone who has a brain and knows the players and the program he should say he is proud of them and supports them and leave it at that because they are no angels, road scholars or citizens of the year.

I did not add any pictures to this post as they were all too painful to see.  But to end on a positive attitude (or at least as positive as we can be) and at lease lose with class here is a little something to help sooth the feelings.  That's life.

Season Midpoint 6-0

At 6-0 the Irish are halfway through the 2014 season.  After Saturdays win over North Carolina there may be as many questions to be answered as there were at the start of the season and there might be as much to be happy about as there is to be concerned about.  So what can Irish fans deduct about Notre Dame at the seasons midpoint.
Brian Kelly Post Game: North Carolina

Concerns & Questions

Offensive Line Coach Harry Hiestand
The offensive line was supposed to be one of if not the strongest part of this team.  The potential is there, the talent should be there but the results are coming up short.  The lack of a run game in my opinion is not the fault of the running backs but is on the shoulders of the offensive line.  Lack of communication, not knowing their assignments or maybe they are just not as good as we thought, either way it needs to be corrected before next week.

The defensive secondary has played the "next man in" role admirably at time but overall it has sown that it has been and can be a liability.  Injuries and suspensions have played a very large role the problems that Notre Dame has had in the secondary.  Against a top 10 passing offense the Irish could have big problems.

Golson fumbles against Syracuse
Turnovers are a more recent issue for Notre Dame.  In the first three games the Irish did a very good job protecting the football.  In the last three games turnovers have become a major area of concern.  Everett Golson have thrown some interceptions but the bigger concern should be the fumbles.

Positives & Upsides

Notre Dame is undefeated at 6-0 and history proves that Brian Kelly and more so Golson are winners, period.

The receiving corps have stepped up as a whole and as individuals.  This group is young and talented and will be around for a while and will only continue to develop.

Jarron Jones blocking his fourth kick in two years.
The defensive line has done a good job.  We all knew what Sheldon Day could do but there were a lot of question marks coming into the fall.  Jarron Jones had shown some promise in limited play last season and has done a very good job taking it to the next level.  Isaac Rochell continues to impress, like Jones will still have two years of eligibility left after this season.  Freshmen Andrew Trumbetti and Gratn Blankenship are looking good early.

Joe Schmidt.  Not tall enough, not heavy enough, not fast enough, all may be true but he silences his critics week in and week out.

The team is young and coachable.  Brian Kelly is playing and getting returns a lot of young players.  True freshmen; Drue Tranquill, Grant Blankenship, Daniel Cage, and Andrew Trumbetti to name a few.  Second year players (those with at least two years of eligibility left after this season and some with three); Steve Elmer, Mad Redfield, Corey Robinson, Tarean Folston, William Fuller, James Onwualu, Greg Bryant, Devin Butler, Tori Hunter Jr., Isaac Rochell, Cole Luke, Jarron Jones and C.J. Prosise.

ND Vs. Syracuse The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

The Good

Everett Golson
Golson; 32 for 39 passing (including 25  consecutive completions for a new school record), 362 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Torii Hunter Jr.; finally got to see the field after an injury filled start to his college career.

William Fuller
Corey Robinson; 8 receptions, averaging 11.4 yards per catch.

William Fuller; although not perfect he looked pretty darn good.

Jarron Jones had a blocked extra point.

The Bad

Turnovers; 4 fumbles ( 3 lost) and 2 interceptions resulting in 12 points from turnovers.

The Irish gave up 5 tackles for a loss.

The Ugly

Sloppy play that often looked as it came from laziness.

Folston
24 yards lost during rushing attempts.

The win; it wasn't always pretty but it is a win.
